Lighting Artist Portfolio - Batman: The Telltale Series (Shadow Edition)

After the Skybound Games gigs, I ended up moving out of the Bay Area and into Los Angeles. The Bay Area was/is an extremely expensive place to live (more so than Los Angeles). Since I was basically a freelancer at the time, the possibility of getting work was higher in LA given my background in both film production and game development. It was around this move that LCG Entertainment contacted me and let me know they had purchased the Telltale name, along with some of their catalog (the DC games like Wolf Among Us and Batman, as well as, a few others). They wanted to do a stylized remaster of the two Batman seasons to sell as DLC - think Sin City meets Batman. I jumped aboard!

Working remotely from my sublet in Inglewood, I spent most of my days either doing texture work or applying lighting adjustments to the two Batman seasons. This DLC was more than just a black and white filter. We treated every single texture in the game to be black and white (with certain elements remaining colorized for visual pop and narrative significance). I also spent a lot of time doing polish to the environment/character lighting, careful not to step on the work of the previous lighting artists whom I had worked with prior at Telltale. Our goal for the game was to make it feel more noir-ish. You know...really amplify the contrast!
